Youth Fellowship

SNYF Exists to:
Nurture and encourage young people in Christian faith and worship as we get to know Jesus.
Provide an environment for fun and fellowship as we get to know each other.
Create a forum for discussing relevant issues
Coordinate our involvement in the life of the Church as a whole.

OUR MOTTO IS
“That you and I may be mutually encouraged by each others’ faith” Romans 1:12
SNYF is a group of Christians, who seek to encourage one another as we learn more about the faith together. Most weeks, therefore, we seek to study the Bible, to find out what God’s word says about himself, and about how we are to live out our faith. Another important element of our meetings is prayer, for ourselves, each other, and also for the wider world, bringing our needs before God and seeking His blessing on our lives. We also engage in fellowship through social and church events.

Background
SNYF began in July 1998 with a meeting of young people who were interested in having some sort of organisation on Sunday nights. It was decided at that meeting that we should be called Sunday Night Youth Fellowship (SNYF). Our Rector, Stephen led us for the initial phase and then Gareth Harron joined us when he became Curate of the parish. Gareth led us until he moved away to become Rector in Magheralin Parish in March 2002. Following Gareth’s departure Gary McMurray and Glenn Gibson headed up the leadership team. Glenn left us in 2003 and Gary is now Curate Assistant Minister in St Elizabeth’s Parish, Dundonald.

Early in our existence we led a service in the Cathedral, introducing new hymns to the congregation, and also using drama to demonstrate the theme of using our talents. July 1999 was our first venture to Summer Madness, and we’ve been going every year since! This is a massive Christian Youth Festival, at that time held in Gosford Forest Park at Markethill, but now in the Royal Ulster Agricultural Showgrounds at Balmoral, Belfast. In early 2008 we debuted on the radio  – every Monday night from 8.00 to 10.00pm on 102.4 Shine FM between January and April! It was great fun!

Scott and Donna Mackey ably led the YF until New Year 2009 when they handed over the reins to Tom Knox who is currently training in youth work and mountaineering.
Down and Dromore Youth Council
Dromore Cathedral is part of the Church of Ireland Diocese of Down and Dromore and we are often involved in many events organised by or under the banner of DDYC (along with a number of other Youth Fellowships from other Churches of Ireland). Throughout the year we often attend weekend residential weekends, training days, parties, reunions, worship events, and joint youth fellowship meetings. The DDYC website at www.ddyc.co.uk features a discussion board, gallery, reviews, discipleship materials and much more! Our Diocesan Youth Officer is Andrew Brannigan (aka Brandy).
